This One's Mine...

Yes…This one’s mine
Today’s Scripture:  In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.  Ephesians 1:11-12
I was listening to the radio on the way home from the grocery store yesterday when an older song from Mercy Me came on called “Spoken For.”  As I sang along, I was struck by the comparison between Mom’s and their children, and God and His children.  I have, a time or two, had the privilege of bragging over my child as I said, “She’s mine.” But have also been less than proud of her choice as I mumbled, “this one’s mine,” in a tone of disappointment.  So I wondered what God’s tone must be like as He continually takes claim to us, whether we have made Him proud or disappointed.  Of course, scripture says in Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” so we know we can’t shed our sin nature until we are called home.  But aren’t we called, after all, to do our very best to obey God’s Word and will? Especially since we are probably the most direct influence our children have upon them.  They are watching us, day and night; our every move, comment, and choice.  When you stop and put it into prospective – it is a WOW moment! Have you ever heard your child say something exactly like you do? I mean, tone, words, hand gestures, you know the works?! I had a two year old that went around saying, “well, actually” as if she was a school professor or something.  And then I know of a few kids who have picked up a word or two from their dad, need I say more and if you know what I mean, the kind you don’t want to hear come out of their little sweet mouth! Our job as parents is…well…huge, and almost too big and scary to stop and think about it too long.  But also the best job on the planet when you hear the “I love you” whispered as they nuzzle their face into your neck as you hold them close.
You know, the Lord claims us too, we are spoken for…doesn’t that give you chills? It does me! The God who made everything the eye can see, and even what it can’t see, has chosen me and you! He claims us, just as we claim our children, the good-the bad- the ugly! I can’t wait for the day when I audibly hear His voice say, “This one’s mine,” even after all of my mistakes.  Rest in the fact that you are SPOKEN for, and if you are reading this and aren’t quite sure if you are… well then email me at lilylukemom@gmail.com and I can tell you exactly how to know without a doubt that you most definitely are HIS!!!
