Today’s Scripture:
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Often things happen in our lives that we don’t understand. We don’t understand why they happen at all, why they have to happen to us, and why our lives must be affected by them. The one thing I have learned after going through “stuff” on what most would consider a fairly consistent basis is…I can’t stop it and will just have to trust God knows best. You know, similar to the “Father Knows Best” show from the 1950’s only on a much larger scale; and I suppose that is an understatement. Our Heavenly Father knows all past, present, and future…which blows my mind and freaks me out just a little. Imagine knowing everything that has ever happened to just your family in past, present, and future…which is quite something since I don’t even remember what I ate for lunch yesterday…and add every other family that lived, lives, or will live!!! It really is more than our human minds can wrap themselves around, and mine hurts now from even trying J Have you ever made a wrong turn causing you to be late to an appointment, didn’t get a job you knew was created just for you, or ended up marrying someone other than who you totally thought was your soul mate? I truly believe these are not just a coincidence, but a kind of protection from God because He knew what disaster would occur to your life if you continued on that path. Now don’t get me wrong, I am the first to get all worked up if I get caught at a stop light (especially if I am running late, which is commonplace for me); but how many times if I’d have been just a few seconds faster down the highway could I have been clipped by a semi and crashed? We don’t know, and we won’t know; that is just the simple fact. We won’t know how many times God intervenes in our personal lives to keep us safe and out of harm’s way…but I can bet it is way more than we ever dreamed possible. Don’t you do everything in your power to protect your children from physical and emotional injury or pain? I know I am always trying to think ahead to make sure I am protecting her from the world as much as humanly possible. Our Father is doing just the same for us, we just don’t have Him standing there saying, “Now child, don’t take that job, you are going to be unhappy and they will treat you unfairly.” Or “Don’t go down I-65 at 4:30pm mile marker 18 there will be a terrible accident.” He just gently guides our moves and helps us along as safely as possible. Of course, there will be times when things will happen to us, our lives are not forever; and it is not because He doesn’t care…Remember there is also free will for not only us, but every other person living right now! So what is my point…when things happen that you don’t understand, don’t seem fair, and don’t like…there is a great big God who does understand, and we simply must trust He knows what He is doing…Father knows best!!!
