Today’s Scriptures:
Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1
From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. Acts 17:26
I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. John 13:15-16
My daughter and I went on a field trip with her fourth grade class for two days and toured about Kentucky visiting Historical Sites. The following places were just a few places we visited: where the first log, stone, and brick homes were built and by whom; where the Constitution of Kentucky was signed, and the Cumberland Gap where the first scouts and settlers came through over the Appalachian Mountains to establish a homestead in the “west”. As I drove around, with a carload of kids in the back seat; I wondered what kind of mark in history I had the opportunity to leave? Obviously, I won’t be leaving any kind of historical event which will be marked by a metal Historical Landmark sign on the side of the road, but what will mark my existence on this planet? Better yet, what kind of mark on history do I want to leave, if I have the choice that is? I am sure the people involved in the massacre, war, or any other “deadly” historical events…was not their first choice for going down in the historical books. In other words, what kind of legacy do I want to leave? And why would it even matter?
The chances of me being the next president, a rock star, or any ultra-famous person for that matter is very slim!!! But this doesn’t mean I have no opportunity to leave a lasting impression on earth before I am called home to be with the Lord. We, as believers, are to lead by example and set godly standards for our children, their children, and the generations to come after them. You see, Jesus set the perfect example for us, and we in turn must do our best to lead by example for those we come in contact with each and every day. Whether it is our kids and family, the neighbor and their kids, the checkout clerk at the grocery store, the guy pumping gas beside us, or the homeless man on the street, we can make a difference. Although we may not be famous and go down in the history books here, that does not mean we don’t have an influence on who enters the gates of heaven. Of course, we don’t have the capability to save anyone’s soul, as that is God’s job. But we do have the ability to influence, lead by example, and demonstrate the love of Christ to those in our path as we muddle through life! As Acts 17:26 states our appointed time marked in history by God is NOW; for He has plans within us to help further His Kingdom, things that He knows only YOU or I can do.
Are you up to the challenge, to make your mark in God’s History, to fulfill the purpose He has within you, to leave your legacy? If we follow the example Christ set, move throughout the day with intent on sharing God’s love to everyone, and believe you make a difference…then you are leaving a legacy, making history, modeling for your friends, family, and everyone what will really count when you stand before the Throne of God! I’d rather be making history for the Lord marked for all eternity, than for history books or magazines on earth that will one day be no more! Listen to this song…it is older but such a good one and very appropriate for today’s lesson in life. I am asking you take the extra time to listen. You will be blessed! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3GxmLaaAwg
