Today’s Scripture: Hebrews 12:10-12
10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. 12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.
Oh the pain…of starting to work out again after a year and a half break…and this video, YES video is killing me! And what’s worse, it is only 20 minutes, but in my defense…it is a full body workout and no breaks of any sort. Having personal trained for more than 10 years; I must say it is a well-rounded, quite intense, and should be effective…only time will tell though. But, mercy me, it’s laying the hurting on my out of shape body, leaving me to grimace when I bend over, and cry when I climb the stairs. It truly is no fun to be getting older, and not working out during my pregnancy and after Luke’s birth is no one’s fault but my own! Sure doesn’t make starting back up a smooth process, or painless. And of course my day is still busy as ever, so making time to work out (reason #1 for choosing an efficient video that only takes 20 minutes) and then showering after, creates an already tight schedule even tighter.
Truth is, today’s scripture says it all. Discipline is never pleasant and especially at the time, however the long-term effects produce the results we long for in life. Time spent in exercise to keep the body fit, and time spent in God’s word to keep the spirit fit, are both important when determining what is priority in a busy day. It is always easy to put both exercise and quiet time aside when life gets hectic and you watch laundry, dishes, and dust pile up around your house! Trust me; I am the queen of excuses for not doing either one. So, 20 minutes for exercise, 20 minutes for shower, and 20 minutes for quiet time in God’s word is my challenge to everyone including myself! This totals one hour out of your day; and maybe it means you turn off the television an hour earlier to go to sleep allowing you to wake up an hour earlier for this exercise, shower, and God time. Or maybe you can’t do it all at once, that is okay too (although the workout and shower probably need to stick together, LOL) but keep track and really give the effort to make it happen. It will take training, and of course the pain of working muscles you didn’t know you had, but the strength physically and spiritually will make you feel so much better about yourself! I’m looking so forward to the harvest of a fit body and a heart closer to my Lord, how about you?
Oh, and by the way, the video I've been doing is the one listed with this posting and sold on Amazon or in stores. I bought mine on Amazon, and had it delivered right to the door. Of course, any exercise is always better than none...so if you don't get the video that's okay too! Walking or running is great, but strength training is the best bang for your buck, just keep that in mind- as it tones muscles, helps speed up metabolism and increases bone density (all extremely important for women).
