Today’s Scripture: 2 Peter 3:13-14 (New Living Translation)
13 But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness. 14 And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.
Knock, Knock, Knock…I come to from a sound sleep, dreaming about something I think…then it hits me like a ton of bricks…we have overslept! I hustle down the stairs to let the girl who is my daughters ride to school, know we are surely not ready…and we will get her to school as soon as we can. Then I hits me again…I remember telling myself to remember to set the alarm. Well, obviously I didn’t remind myself very well, and wait, what about my other back-ups? Luke is still asleep at 7:40am; that is a new one and why couldn’t this have happened on a weekend? And didn’t I watch Lily set her alarm? What happened there? “I didn’t hear it!” says Lily, as she hugs the covers in her nice warm bed and doggie Buster snuggled at her side. You know what happens next, CHAOS!!! I hate mornings like this…husband late to work, baby drinking his bottle in the car on the way to school, Lily scrambling to get her uniform on and backpack in order. “Calgon, take me away” and it is only 8 am…how will the rest of the day ever straighten out? Life is just always full of fun and games, some days are more exciting than others. So when LIFE happens, what should we do then? What does God’s word say about order, chaos, and peace in our lives?
Scripture is clear that our God is a God of order. If you read about Creation in Genesis chapters 1 and 2 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+1&version=NIV), it is certain God had purpose and plan as He set this world into being. He didn’t create the birds before He created the sky, nor the fish before the bodies of water. Everything He did was orderly and with intent. Repeatedly in the Old Testament, God commanded people to do things orderly. In Genesis 22:9, we read when Abraham was building an altar for sacrifice; he laid the wood in order on the altar. In Exodus 40:4, God commanded Moses when setting up the table in the Tabernacle, to “set in order the things that are to be set in order upon it.” God Likes order…and so do I. I function much better when I have order, stability, and forewarning on something happening out of the ordinary which will cause life to get a little bumpy. I am just a more calm and collected person when I have things lined up and in an orderly fashion. I like to have my ducks in a row and with matching outfits, so to speak. Satan thrives on chaos, which our world seems to have lots of these days. Chaos causes tempers to rise up, people to make rash decisions they otherwise wouldn’t make, and gives people an overall sense of uneasiness in their daily lives. God does not want this for us…to feel angry, uptight, and irritable during our day!!! He wants us to be peaceful and happy J Psalm 37:4 says, “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” I only found myself uptight for a few minutes, took a deep breath, and decided this momentary chaos was not going to ruin my day. I prayed for God’s strength and peace, and my day has been more peaceful than most. I will not let Satan pour chaos into my life, don’t you either!!!
