Today’s Scripture:
1 Peter 2:15-17
15 For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. 16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. 17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.
Today is Memorial Day, if you live in the United States that is…which is a time for us to remember our Veterans, and the sacrifice made for our freedom in past, present, and future. We remember those loved ones lost in the name of peace. Freedom is not something to take lightly, although most of us on a daily basis enjoy freedom without a second thought. But when you have lost a loved one to war, or your family member is deployed…does it really hit home! And I would know, because at the age of 50ish my own dad was deployed during Iraqi Freedom for nine long months. It was a hardship on my Mother who was used to my Dad being around…and hard on the rest of us because you just miss them so much. It is amazing how we take our loved ones for granted, until they aren’t around that is. I remember the day he left, and I didn’t know if that would be the last time I ever saw my Dad. It is heart-wrenching, and I can’t imagine how it must be for a spouse! Our freedom comes at a price…A Dad who misses the birth of his child, a Mom who misses her daughter’s prom, a Grandma who misses a graduation, or a husband who misses the hugs of his new bride. What we must remember is to do as today’s scripture says, show respect for our family, neighbors, and government; but never become slave to anyone but God. We must live in freedom but not let it be used for evil, as God will not honor that at all. So…remember our heroes in the military who have given their all so we may live in a free country to worship a God worthy of our Praise, and pray for their safety, their family who miss them, and our Country who needs a little more God in it every day. God bless you, and God bless the United States of America!!!!
