Summer Break!!!

Today’s Scripture:
Luke 21:29-31
29 He told them this parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees. 30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. 31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.

Just nothing like it is there?  Remember those days as a kid, just counting the days till summer break!!! No getting up early, no homework, no school work in general, just being a kid every day all day long…playing, sleeping, annoying your MOM!!! Yes, I have mixed emotions about how I feel about summer break.  On one hand, I am completely relieved of not having to get up early, fix lunch, gather things up like backpacks-shoes-jackets, and then begin the nightly routine of get a shower, did you finish your homework, read your book, now get to sleep or you will be tired in the morning speech.  Summer time is a break for Mom too, well sort of…but sort of not!  Now instead of going to the store without children or just one, we have them all; or playing referee to a disagreement which is either between your own kids or could also involve a neighbor’s kid as well.  So let’s face it, it may be summer…but not a break for tired old Mom.  It is just different J  Going to the pool or a friend’s house sounds fun, until you realize how much stuff has to be packed up just to get moving in the right direction (especially if toting a baby along)!  It just kind of takes all of the FUN out of fun.  Not to even mention going on vacation; which should be the ultimate summer break thing to do, until you realize how much work it is going to be before you even step foot out the door and don’t even think about the work involved when you get back home .  The pre laundry, packing and repacking because you have packed too much, then loading the car, (luggage check if traveling by plane)packing up after vacation is over at the hotel,  the post laundry, post house pick up…and the list goes on and on and on.  I have decided it takes a month to go on vacation for a week.

You know, it just seemed like more fun when I was a kid.  I guess it was because my Mom did it all, NOT ME!!! But one day, my daughter will do it for her family, and her daughter will do it for her family and so on…  Mom is the go to person for popsicles for half the neighborhood, the sprinkler hooker-uper, the towel fetcher, the sunscreen applicator, the booboo bandager, the PB&J maker, the cooler packer, and well, you get the point.  We as Mom’s are the ones that make summer exactly what it is for our kids…FUN!!! And why not, they will be grown up before we blink our eyes, and our days of making PB&J and hooking up the sprinkler will be a thing of the past.  So with summer just beginning, I will smile and enjoy having my kids here with me, say thanks to my husband who works hard so I can stay home, and relax as best I can. And I will choose to give Glory to God as I do all those Motherly things this summer for those I love so dearly!
